Prioritize Family Dental Health for Happiness

Your family’s health is important. A healthy family is a happy family! To keep them looking and feeling their best it is crucial to ensure dental care is priority along with your family’s regular wellness check-ups, healthy diet and exercise. Common dental-related problems like cavities, tooth decay, and gingivitis are often 100% preventable if the right preventative care is taken to keep your mouth healthy! Here are some tips to help you make sure every member of your family enjoys a healthy smile for a lifetime.

Visiting the dentist regularly for a cleaning and exam will help us to ensure you maintain good oral health and catch any potential problems early before they become a bigger or more painful issue. When patients come in for their regular preventative dental exam and cleaning we will update x-rays and records, examine the mouth and professionally clean and polish the teeth to ensure any stubborn plaque or build-up is removed.

Good oral hygiene starts with a good dental routine.

  • Brush your teeth twice daily for at least 2 minutes. Use gentle circular motions to clean all side of your teeth, gums, tongue and roof of your mouth.
  • Floss at least once every day to remove plaque and build-up under the gums where brushing can’t reach.
  • Swish and sip water after eating or drinking to help remove food particles and sugars found in your foods that if left on your teeth can begin to quickly wreak havoc on your tooth enamel.
There are many different options when it comes to choosing a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss. Let us help you decide on the best products for your mouth, especially if you have a special condition such as sensitive teeth or dry-mouth. Brushing & flossing are essential to having a healthy mouth!

It is also important to:

  1. Replace your toothbrush every three months and after every time you come down with an illness like the cold or flu.
  2. Protect your teeth (and cheeks/lips especially if you wear braces!) while playing contact sports with a mouth guard.
  3. Stop smoking or using tobacco. These habits can lead to gum disease and oral cancer. Tobacco users are also at increased risk for heart disease and pulmonary complications, not to mention a stained, yellowing smile.
  4. Limit sugary snacks. When you do oblige your sweet tooth brushing and flossing your teeth shortly after eating is best. If you can brush, rinse with water.
